Child Safety Policy

Last updated: January 2026

Our Commitment

At Safe Outside, the safety and wellbeing of children is at the heart of everything we do. This policy outlines our commitment to child safety and the measures we take to protect the children who use our products.

1. Our Mission

Safe Outside was created with one purpose: to help reunite lost children with their families quickly and safely. Our NFC-enabled products provide an additional layer of security for families, allowing good Samaritans to help return children to their parents.

2. Child Safety Principles

Privacy First

We collect minimal information about children and never share it without parental consent.

Parental Control

Parents have full control over their child's profile and can modify or delete information at any time.

Safe Communication

All communication between finders and parents is monitored and logged for safety.

Verified System

Our system is designed to facilitate safe reunification while preventing misuse.

3. How Our System Protects Children

3.1 Limited Information Disclosure

When someone scans a child's NFC tag, they only see:

  • The child's first name only (no surname)
  • A message that the child may need help
  • An option to contact the parent through our secure system

We never display:

  • The child's full name or surname
  • Home address or school information
  • Parent's personal contact details directly
  • Photos of the child

3.2 Secure Communication

All communication between the finder and parent occurs through our secure messaging system. This ensures:

  • Personal phone numbers are never shared
  • All messages are logged and can be reviewed if needed
  • Parents can choose when and how to respond
  • Location sharing is optional and controlled by the finder

3.3 Parent Notification

When a child's NFC tag is scanned:

  • Parents receive an immediate alert on their dashboard
  • A case is created with timestamp and optional location
  • Parents can communicate with the finder in real-time
  • Parents can close the case once the child is safe

4. Appropriate Use Guidelines

Our products are designed to be used as a supplementary safety measure. We recommend:

  • Never replace supervision: Our products are an aid, not a substitute for parental supervision
  • Teach your child: Explain to your child what the NFC tag is for and when to show it to a trusted adult
  • Regular checks: Ensure the NFC tag is working and securely attached to the accessory
  • Keep information updated: Maintain current contact information in your account
  • Multiple products: Consider using multiple products for different activities (school, outings, etc.)

5. For Finders: How to Help Safely

If you find a child wearing a Safe Outside product:

  1. Stay calm and reassure the child that help is coming
  2. Scan the NFC tag with your smartphone
  3. Follow the prompts to alert the parent
  4. If possible, share your location to help the parent find you
  5. Stay with the child in a safe, public place until the parent arrives
  6. If the child is in immediate danger, contact emergency services (000) first

6. Emergency Situations

In case of emergency, always call 000 first.

Our service is designed to help reunite children with parents in non-emergency situations. If a child appears to be in immediate danger, injured, or in a medical emergency, please contact emergency services immediately.

7. Reporting Concerns
